Something we may rarely think about and hardly ever see, are industrial magnets, and yet they serve many important purposes across industries such as shipping, plastics, pharmaceutical, food, construction, mining, ceramics and glass, automobile and electronics, to name a few. These industries make use of industrial magnets for purposes such as conveyance and dropping of heavy loads, stacking, holding, lifting, and in factories' productions lines and so on.

The electronics industry makes use of the magnets for computer monitors, guitar picks, amplifiers, microphones, clocks, loudspeakers, radios and televisions. Children's toys and compasses are other places they are needed. The magnet role that helps these objects work are often inside and so they are unseen and not easily observed.


Alnico is a stock magnet that is used for making industrial magnets. Alnico keeps its magnetic component for a long time and works well in temperatures of up to 525 degrees. For this reason, it is called a permanent magnet, and is very popular. Alnico is also very economical because the magnets can be produced in small batches.





The industrial magnets are made for their individual uses through mass production and since they are of such super strength, they cannot be duplicated in any informal way at home, or by an everyday person. However, a regular magnet can be made from materials found around your home. They can be temporary or permanent but they would not be at all like the strength of industrial magnets.

A magnet can be made by placing a blank paper and a ferromagnetic object such as nickel or iron, on a flat surface. This normally develops a magnetic field. Then when the field is removed, it maintains its magnetism, making it a permanent magnet. For at least fifty times, rub the magnet against the ferromagnetic object's surface in a swiping motion. That will cause it to become magnetized.

Whether or not we are aware of them, industrial magnets are a vital part of our daily lives, and many of our instruments of entertainment and of our work would not function if it were not for them. They work silently for us, keeping our traditions, helping us along our way, and unless they are brought to our attention, we rarely think of them, know what they do, or appreciate how well they have integrated into our lives and how convenient they have made some of the daily routines we take for granted.
